Hi everyone, it’s Chase from AVA.
We're trying something new in our latest email update - video updates! We have some important things to cover, so we decided to film it this time. Please check your inboxes and click on the main video header for the latest manufacturing update.
October was an exciting month of wins for AVA. Chase collected his Air Canada Sustainability Award, we won the GRAY's Pitch Tank, and we made it to top 15 global finalists at the Smart Kitchen Summit 2017 in Seattle! As part of our GRAY's win, we will be featured in the November issue of GRAY's Magazine and receive mentorship from the amazing judges.
A quick manufacturing update for the month of October:
We’ve been working hard to get to the production ready Byte and have made really good progress. We received our newest prototypes a few weeks ago, with only a couple more iterations to go before we start cutting tools. It's been a learning process sending samples back and forth, walking through the designs, and working with Arrow to ensure we can get a steady supply of all our electronic parts. With some final revisions, we will be able to start tooling for our first trial run soon.
Our manufacturer is recommending that we slightly extend the production timeline in order to meet the high quality standard that we’re looking to deliver. It’s important to us that we keep things transparent and keep you in the loop for everything that we do here at AVA. We value your patience, and we’ll be the first to update you on the new schedule as soon as we receive it from our manufacturers.

Hello AVA backers -
The numbers are in: you helped us raise over 3x our goal (338%), with a grand total of $116,552 raised by 790 backers. We’d like to extend our most heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you! Watching the orders pour in over the last two months has been unbelievably exciting, and we really can’t thank you enough for supporting us in this endeavor.
Post-Campaign Celebration
We didn’t quite hit $120k before the campaign ended, but we’re dedicated to making sure your AVA Byte comes with a ton of flexibility, so we talked it over with our team and decided to unlock the microgreen sheets anyway! They can be purchased on our new Backerkit site. This is also where you’ll be able to select which pods you want, which accessories should be included in your accessory bundle packs, and purchase all of the other add-ons your heart desires.
Next Steps
Thanks to your support, we are able to fund another iteration of AVA Byte pre-production prototypes that will be arriving to AVA HQ within the next few weeks. We are so excited to see and test these units - if all our tests go well, we will be taking these to our manufacturer to start engaging in the production process! With these new iterations, we have made major improvements on structural rigidity, smoothing out the telescoping experience, and overall manufacturability.
At the end of the month, Chase and I will be traveling to visit our manufacturers and suppliers to finalize all the details with these prototypes. We'll be sending updates from our travels, so be sure to tune in on the AVA Food Futurists Facebook group and follow our updates here!
Transition to InDemand
Now that the campaign is over, we’ve moved the campaign to a new stage on Indiegogo, called “InDemand.” For a limited time, folks that missed out on the pre-order campaign period will still be able to purchase AVA Byte at (slightly higher) pre-order prices. Feel free to continue sharing the campaign (the link remains the same) with anyone who missed out.
