Hoppy Easter Backers,
We know you've all been itching to hear more about our latest development and updates, so we have just sent a thorough update. We have lots to share this month!
Hopefully you have all received an email in your inbox detailing answers to all of your questions. The email is long, but we wanted to cover in as much detail as we could so you know where your AVA Byte is at.
We noticed that there are only 550 emails stored, so we are missing backer details. Some people have emailed us saying that they haven't received our emails. So, please make sure to leave your email address so we can keep you updated properly. In the AVA's Food Futurist group, we posted a link to sign up to the newsletter if you haven't been receiving updates properly (the last email should have been early March about International Housewares Show).
In this update, we talk about potentially launching a space tomato pod (yup, seeds from space), AVA app previews, a thorough manufacturing update, some exciting fundraising news, as well as an event recap of March. Here's a sneak preview from the email update:
Thanks to last month's feedback, we have finalized on the pod packs that you all wanted most. You can choose that in your backer portal this weekend as well!
To reward you for your patience and for the delayed shipping, we will be announcing more free perks as we go. Keep your eye out for free gifts and perks, and make sure to check your inbox at the end of the week for your link to choose your colour and pod packs.
We're excited to get growing!

Happy Chinese New Years Backers,
Hope you had an amazing BC Family Day and Valentines Day, as well as an amazing upcoming Chinese New Year and George Washington Day! Diversity at its best.
In a follow up email, we'll be sending more detailed updates with a contest to score tickets to some of our upcoming events! Stay tuned for that.
Come Meet us at the Upcoming Events
- BC Home & Garden Show in Vancouver, Feb 21 - 25th.
- International Housewares Show in Chicago, Mar 10 - 13th.
Manufacturing Updates
Last we updated you all, we mentioned that our manufacturers are on a one month long break. That doesn't stop us, though! We're really excited to share our manufacturing ready test prototype that we are outfitting with electronics for a final test.
Please keep in mind that even now, there is a chance for YOU, our amazing backers, to give feedback on our product design so you get EXACTLY what you want :).
How many people want AVA Byte in white? Do you prefer matte, semi-gloss, or gloss?

How do you guys like the new vent design with organic holes instead of straight lines?

Last but not least, check out some of the amazing pods we're growing in our Bytes:

App Updates
We are almost done all of our app UI/UX. Before we launch into full coding mode, we wanted to make sure the designs work well for you. So, make sure you are signed up for the AVA Food Futurist group on Facebook. We'll be posting a link to the walkthrough in the next few weeks, and will be welcoming any feedback to improve on our app.
Let's Grow,
Val

Happy New Year everyone — we hope 2018 is going to a great start for you! Backers, please check your emails for the survey on what types of pods you would like to grow so we have an idea of what to prepare! Also, we will be launching microgreen kits soon, so help us with that poll to tell us what style you’d prefer.
Announcing 1% Gardens for Good:
We're happy to announce that from here on out, for every 100 units sold, we will donate 1 unit to schools who either cannot access or afford a garden. Our mission is to help a million families grow their own real food. This is one step forward!
AVA Heads to CES in Vegas!
Chase, Mike, and Val are heading to CES January 8th to 13th. Will you be at CES? Come meet the AVA Team and see our prototype; we’d love to meet you. You can find us through the CES App, prototype with the Canadian ICT West delegation Booth #501-511.
Manufacturing Updates:
In December, Val went to Taipei for 3 weeks to meet up in person with our manufacturers and review all of our final documents. We’re really excited to say that after over 30 iterations, our 3D designs are finally ready for one last 3D print. After we test this 3D print to ensure everything works and can be properly produced, we will head straight into tooling.
For February, China and Taiwan has nearly a one month vacation for Chinese New Years so there will be limited updates in February. We’ll be back full steam ahead in March, with more updates straight from the factory. Stay tuned!

This is a short and sweet reminder for those of you who signed up for our Microgreen Beta Testing Program on the Facebook Group.
We will be following up with the tracking numbers very shortly, but you can expect your deliveries by the end of the week! There will be a brief survey so you can track your growing journey. At the end, to reward you for participation, we will also be sending you a gift card.

Happy Growing!

Hello Backers,
On behalf of the AVA Family, wishing you the best as you enter the holiday season. For an early celebration, we have launched a Black Friday Indiegogo Deal - please share to anyone that could take advantage of a $20 discount, up for only 1 more week! Also, check out our new website launch!
Competitions:
We’re in the running for Small Business BC Awards for best concept — we only have until November 30th! Vote for us for Best Concept and Best Innovation here to help us win $1,500. We'll use the proceeds to send out another round of free microgreen trials!
Do you remember the GRAY'S Pitch Tank we won a couple months ago? Well, from that competition, one of our judges actually invited us to feature Byte at Dinner by Design, an event where internationally recognized designers gather to experience creative concepts over a dinner, all while supporting non-profits:
Manufacturing Updates:
If you remember the tools we mentioned in our September update that are used to produce the plastic parts, we will be starting to create our own tools by the end of the year. This is an exciting time as we lock down our final design!
We have one or two last 3D printed prototypes to print and test to ensure we can produce the tools we need properly, and we’ll be ready to get started making your Bytes. We are planning another trip to Asia for the next month to check in and discuss the details with our manufacturers to help ensure a smooth production process.
Remember, as you may recall in Chase's last video update, that our timeline has been pushed back just slightly to ensure that we only deliver to you the best possible product.

Microgreen Trays:
If you’ve joined our AVA’s Food Futurists Facebook Group or remember from a previous update, we’ve been gathering beta testers to try out our microgreen kits, and the testing has begun!
To those who asked to be one and reside in the Vancouver area, expect to receive it soon. We’ll be sharing our results in the next newsletter, so keep an eye out!
Let's grow,
AVA Family
